The liver is one of the body’s largest organs and functions as a metabolism regulator for vitamins, alcohol, and medications. It also aids in digestion, detoxifies excess hormones, promotes weight loss, and cleanses the blood while it produces new, healthy, red blood cells. The liver is the body’s natural detoxifying center, breaking down dietary stressors and removing them in the form of bile.

Under normal conditions, the liver can cleanse more than 80% of the impurities in our bloodstream; however, it can’t provide optimal benefits when it is being overworked! Poor eating habits, alcohol, sedentary lifestyles, and emotional stress will begin to disable the liver, affecting hormones, energy levels, and brain activity. Inadequate function has been linked to diseases like cancer. In other words, when the liver is underperforming, we don’t last long.

There are several ways we can aid the Liver in the detoxifying process. One is through organic, loose-leaf, herbal tea (Liver Cleanse Tea). For years, the Japanese have used green tea to improve blood markers of liver health. The spice known as Turmeric contains an active component called Curcumin, a highly effective antioxidant that repairs liver cells and aids the enzymes which remove toxins. Beetroot provides a healthy amount of fiber and vitamin C, aiding digestion, cleansing the blood, and increasing oxygen levels. Other teas that enhance the liver function are Chamomile, Milk Thistle, Oolong, and Peppermint. I could go on! There also therapeutic "detox" blends that can be used to support liver health and wellness.

In short, most of us need a change in lifestyle and better eating habits. In reality, it can take some time to make the changes necessary to return to better health. Loose-leaf, herbal teas are not a cure-all, but they are an easy way to begin. They can make a strong impact on our liver health affecting so many other bodily functions.
